Protecting Families, Tenants & Homes
AICO APPROVED
INTERLINKED FIRE ALARM & SMOKE ALARM INSTALLERS
When it comes to protecting your family, tenants & your home, you cannot afford to take chances with the threat of fire. Since the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy, people are now more aware of the importance of an early warning to give people more time to escape. Having good smoke, heat & carbon monoxide detectors in your home can literally be the difference between life & death.
We are both AICO Expert Installers & NICEIC Approved Contractors, and have been installing fire, smoke & carbon monoxide alarms for years. Traditionally, we’ve installed alarms for home owners & landlords, simply because they want to provide protection for their families & homes (and landlords need to do this by law).
However, in February 2022 it became law for all Scottish homes to meet the new Fire & Smoke Alarm Standards. In short, the new Scottish legislation states that an interlinked Fire and Smoke alarm system must be fitted in a property and that there should be adequate Carbon Monoxide protection. Fire & Smoke Alarms:
How Can We Help?
We can advise on exactly what is required for your home or property e.g. do you need to upgrade or simply install new alarms.
After that, we can supply, install & test the new system to ensure your home is protected (and complies with the new legislation).
Following the installation we will provide a certificate of compliance to BS5839 for the installed system (really useful if you need to provide evidence of an operational system to an insurer).

Your Home:
What Alarms Do You Need?
Since February 2022, all homes in Scotland should have:
- Smoke alarms in every circulation space on each level, such as hallways and landings.
- Smoke alarms installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purpose.
- Heat alarms installed in every kitchen.
- All smoke and heat alarms should be mounted on ceilings & interlinked.
- Carbon monoxide alarms to be fitted where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance (e.g. boiler, log burner, open fire or heater). The carbon monoxide alarm does not need to be connected to the fire alarms.
- This applies to ALL homeowners and landlords.
If you already have alarms fitted, you need to check that they are interlinked.

Fire Alarm Choices:
Mains Power Or Long-Life Batteries?
You can choose from two types of alarms that comply with the new standard:
- Tamper proof long-life lithium battery alarms, which can be fitted by fitted to ceilings by the householder. These should last for 10 years.
- Mains-wired alarms, which are cheaper to buy than tamper proof long-life battery alarms. However, they should be installed by a qualified electrician (such as ourselves) in accordance with BS7671.
It may also be possible to have a mix of mains wired alarms in some spaces & long-life battery alarms in other spaces…as long as they are linked.
We can supply & install high-quality alarms. If you’re prefer to buy the alarms yourself, and just use us for installation, choose a good brand. You need to ensure the packaging clearly displays compliance with BS EN14604:2005 for smoke alarms and BS 5446-2:2003 for heat alarms. Carbon monoxide alarms should have the British Kitemark (EN 50291-1) on the box.
