Project: LED Lighting Upgrade
Date: January 2024
Location: Hangar At Glasgow Airport
Project Detail
The aim of this project was to improve the lighting in a hangar at Glasgow Airport, reduce the running costs & lower the carbon footprint. With the existing system, a combination of 400w metal halide & 80w T5 fluorescent lights were on all the time to ensure the aircraft could be accessed quickly. The running cost of this was circa £31k per annum.
We installed 165w LED lights which are cool white (840k). The first & last lights in each row are on constantly. This provides illumination & lighting for pilots & other staff to walk around the perimeter. The rest of the lights in the centre are triggered by PIR. A 5w GU10 spotlight was also installed to highlight a gift from NASA!
Even if all of the new hangar lights were on all of the time, the running cost would be reduced to circa £17k (saving £14k per annum). However, with the PIRs, we are hoping the cost may be reduced to around £8-£10k i.e. a saving of around 65%+.
